Here are reasons to adopt a dog from your local shelter instead of from a breeder. As the Bible says, it is easier for a Great Dane to pass through the eye of a needle than for a dog breeder to get into Heaven. 1. Animal shelters are massively over-crowded. In order to have room, millions of cats and dogs - who are otherwise healthy, loving animals - must be euthanized every year. Dog breeders are actively contributing to this problem by adding to the pet population, and therefore preventing shelter dogs from finding homes. 2. If you get an adult dog from a shelter, they are often already house-trained and might know some commands. That is so much easier than a new puppy who doesn't know anything. 3.
